This client wasn’t interested in a safe, neutral bathroom. They love bold color and pattern, and we partnered with them to help create a space that puts both on full display.

We started by removing the old tub and converting it into a walk-in shower. The new layout is more open, easier to use and fits the way the homeowners live day to day. From there, we brought in rich colors and layered patterns that play off each other, so the room feels confident and personal rather than busy.

The real showpiece is overhead. We finished the ceiling using Shou Sugi Ban, also called Yakisugi, a centuries-old Japanese technique where the wood’s surface is carefully charred. Burning the wood deepens its color and brings out the grain, creating a dark, textured finish with real depth and character. It’s a detail you won’t find in most bathrooms, and it anchors the whole space.

This project shows what we love about custom remodeling at Hurley House Co.: listening to what makes each client unique and using thoughtful craftsmanship to turn it into a space that’s entirely their own.
